Description

Built according to his own plans, Frederick Wilhelm IV. had the Belvedere erected on the Pfingstberg Hill simply because of the beautiful view . The plans for the building with its noticeable Italian influence were put into effect by Ludwig Persius, Friedrich Stüler and Ludwig Ferdinand Hesse beginning in 1847. At first planned as a large palatial estate with panoramic views, open flights of stairs and water fountains, the Belvedere was completed in 1863 in a significantly smaller form. After 1945 the building fell into disrepair. Thanks to many donors the building is now largely restored and can be visited once again.
